Hayden Stark

Landscape Architect, Director
Hayden, an award winning landscape architect with over 20 years experience leads the Xteriorscapes team. Prior to setting up Xteriorscapes, he worked for a prominent Christchurch landscape design and building company, and a leading multi-disciplinary landscape architecture, environmental planning and heritage consultancy in the UK. During this time Hayden has built up an extensive range of residential and commercial landscape projects throughout the South Island. As a result Hayden has honed his design skills on many residential properties from townhouse gardens to lifestyle blocks, rural homesteads and dairy farms, both new builds, and existing properties in need of a major revamp.
Hayden has also worked on many commercial projects in education, industrial, healthcare, and private sectors and also specialises in the overall landscape development of many residential subdivision projects and an achievement of this was receipt of a Landscape Industries Association of New Zealand (LIANZ) award for design for the Preston Downs Subdivision in West Melton. Xteriorscapes is able to offer you the benefit of Hayden’s experience in delivering to you outstanding, innovative and creative exterior solutions of the highest quality to suit your individual requirements. Hayden’s personal approach to each client will engage and guide you through the landscape design process from initial consultation through to construction.

Chris Owen
BLA (Hons)
NZILA Registered Landscape Architect
Chris is a senior landscape architect with over thirteen years’ design experience, which has included leading award-winning projects. He enjoys working closely with clients, consultants and contractors throughout the design process, with expertise in concept design, detailed documentation, and project management. His passion lies in establishing great working relationships, and combining problem-solving with creative thinking.
Chris has been involved in a number of successful projects in Canterbury and throughout the South Island including schools, health resorts, civic spaces, public reserves, commercial developments and private residences. He also teaches into the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture programme at Lincoln University.
In his spare time, Chris enjoys helping his wife chase after their two mischievous children, and is always keen to spend time in the mountains or on his mountain bike.

Anna Hoffmann
BLA (Hons)
Landscape Architect
Anna has been working as a landscape architect for over 10 years and joined the Xteriorscapes team in July 2014. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture Anna has gained a wide skill set working for a prominent Christchurch landscape design and build company, and a New Zealand District Council. She has also had experience in assisting at a larger planning scale, working alongside other disciplines and with community groups.
At Xteriorscapes Anna works with other talented Landscape Architects on a range of residential and subdivision designs. She particularly enjoys the challenge and satisfaction of swimming pool design, creating 3D visualisations and working with clients to achieve a landscape they love.
Outside of work Anna has a range of hobbies. She is often chasing after her baby, going for walks around Christchurch with friends, cake decorating or painting. Anna also loves to visit family on the stunning Coromandel Peninsula whenever she gets a chance.

Ellen George
BLA (Hons)
Landscape Architect
Ellen started at Xteriorscapes in 2017 as a graduate Landscape Architect. Since then, she has been involved in a wide range of projects including townhouse developments, residential spaces, and subdivisions. At all these different scales, Ellen enjoys visualising new spaces, and imagining how they might change the way you live daily life.
Being at Xteriorscapes for several years now, she has been able to see many projects come to life and finds it satisfying to witness how they grow and change over time.
Ellen spends her free time op-shopping, crafting, and exploring the neighbourhood.

Louise Overtoom
BLA (Hons)
Landscape Architect
Louise joined the Xteriorscapes team in June 2018. She has many years of design experience, working on a wide range of designs, from large scale master planning to detailed design for residential and commercial projects. Much of this experience was obtained working at a prominent landscape firm here in Christchurch. She also spent two years living in London where she worked for an Urban Design company and a London Borough Council.
This range of work experience has provided Louise with a wealth of knowledge of design from large scale urban areas to private gardens. She enjoys enhancing or creating a place to thrive in, from both a functional and creative perspective. Her time spent raising her young children has provided invaluable insight into designing for play, making spaces accessible and allowing the imagination to flourish in various landscape settings.
When free time arises, Louise enjoys painting and print making, yoga, catching up with friends and visiting new urban attractions in our beautiful city.

Celia popkin
BLA (Hons)
Landscape Architect
Celia joined Xteriorscapes in July 2022, bringing with her over nine years of design experience, primarily in residential landscaping. Coming from a design and build background, Celia has seen many designs through to construction, gaining a wealth of knowledge along the way.
Celia strives for her designs to enrich people’s lives and broaden their perspective of what landscaping is and what it can bring to their home, work and leisure environments. She wants to have a meaningful, positive impact on the environment and the mindset of people experiencing the landscapes she helps create.
Celia’s interests include mid-century home decor, indoor plants and Zumba. In her spare time she enjoys trying out different brunch locations with friends and hanging out with her Samoyed dogs. Celia is also on a mission to find the best grazing platter in Christchurch.

sally stark
office administrator
Sally joined the Xteriorscapes team in June 2022 in an office administration role. With a background in hospitality and property sales, Sally brings with her a strong background in customer service and working within team environments.
After gaining a good understanding of landscape architecture over the years through husband Hayden, Sally is eager to further her knowledge about the design process and help the bustling Xteriorscapes office keep ticking along smoothly.
When not busy running around after her three children, Sally enjoys cooking, bootcamp and exploring different walking tracks around New Zealand when time allows.
